Softness of lead ★★★☆☆
Durability ★★★☆☆

The Caran d’Ache Prismalo Aquarelle Watercolor pencil is water-soluble colored pencil. This pencil is used in a watercolor form.

While not truly as versatile they are also noticeably more affordable.  These pencils are wax-based and wrapped in a hexagonal barrel are accessible in sizes ranging from 12 to 80.

Visible Attraction

Regarding how many professionals recognize these as being the first original effort at a water-soluble colored pencil.  Caran d’Ache has actually vanquished the art of the watercolor pencil.

The lead, while on the less side, puts out wonderful and vigorous hues that really stand out.  They take properly to water and can be easily spread over a large area to manipulate how deep of a color you want.

You can also efficiently layer these pencils to come up with some very innovative and vibrant color projects.  While not quite as bright as the more rich and flexible Museum Aquarelle line. There is still more than sufficient vividness for maximum people’s needs.

Watercolor Pencil

In the bigger sets (the 40 piece and 80 pieces) contain many colors. The colors are various sufficient for most purposes.  Any colors not ready can be instantly created with some timely blending.

In the smaller sets, you will grapple to find all of the colors you want.  So we examine these more of “sampler” packs.

Usability and Stability

It is absolutely a pleasure to feel managing these pencils with water.  It is very suitable to measure the color with only a small portion of water. You constantly believe like you are in handle of the section.

We suggest beginning out with very tiny volumes of liquid color. Then producing up as just a little bit of moisture appears to go a prolonged way.  That being said, the edges of these are noticeably set than Caran d’Ache’s sister watercolor pencils, the Museum Aquarelle.

Because of this, you won’t observe actually the level of buttery texture and lightfastness. Which you endure with the more costly Museum Aquarelles.  But we feel that these aren’t really dedicated to being used as “dry” painted pencils. You would be doing them a disservice by doing so.

The lead is pretty small at just 3.0mm which makes highly-detailed blocks easy to handle.  The firmer, harder lead can also be clarified to a great spot which makes it best for grass, hair, and other extensive details on a piece.

Packaging and Display

Alike to most of Caran d’Ache’s other products, the packaging used is great and literally represents the quality of pencil you are receiving.

Depending on the size, the colored pencils will come in multiple tins or wooden boxes that do a great job of preserving the contents and subtracting for easy access to different pencils.

The one limitation to this is that we have had addresses that some people have got their pencils in a cheap cardboard sleeve instead of a tin.

We have never experienced something like this from Caran d’Ache and can only assume this is directly attached to the store you are buying from so we encourage you to confirm the packaging they will come in if you shop around.  The pencils themselves are covered in a color-matching outer painted barrel with the brand name, type, and color printed in gold on the outside.

You will instantly notice that the styling of the pencils isn’t approximately as effective as in other premium-priced lines.  You won’t find the white or gold decorated base that many other goods have which can make these seem moderately “ordinary” if you didn’t know what you were looking at.  How big of an issue that may be is up to the individual but we aren’t too concerned by it.

Value

Despite these being affordable than their sister set, Caran d’Ache Prismalo Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils are still quite pricey and drop constantly into the premium price scale.

Overall Ranking

If you desire to feel some analyzed and examining watercolor pencils that have been ruling the art for longer than anybody else then you should clearly give Caran d’Ache Prismalo Aquarelles a try.

The color production is excellent and the way that they take on another life when presented with water is something that everyone should endure.

Blending is fabulous and in the 40 and 80-pack sets, you will be capable to experience any color your heart wishes thanks to the different color choices and the great blending.

Just keep in mind these aren’t as versatile as some of the other water-soluble pencil goods that have smoother and thicker leads.

In our judgment, these should fundamentally be used as watercolor pencils as the lead is easily too strong and tiny for common dry applications.  For those who can manage the somewhat high asking price. You won’t be disappointed.

ProsCons

Great control when exposed to water

   Deep, vivid colors

   Excellent for intricate details

   May conflict when applied dry

   Expensive
